Lippitt Hall, University of Rhode Island
Kingston, RI
Built in 1897, Lippitt Hall is one of the oldest buildings on the Kingston campus and occupies a prominent position on the Quadrangle. Originally constructed as an academic building and drill hall, subsequent additions and renovations to the building have compromised its original grandeur.
After a thorough programming and tenant identification process, it was determined that the Honors Program and the Department of Mathematics would be located in the renovated building. Improvements to the interior reintroduce the delight of the original drill hall volume and exposed timber structure. The building exterior is has been fully restored. Overall building functionality is improved through the remediation of existing accessibility, building, life safety, and energy code deficiencies.
